Play Therapy facilitates maturational development and is helpful with a wide range of problems and diagnoses. Some of the problems that are effectively treated by Play therapy and associated techniques:
Depression
Anxiety
Social problems
Parent-child problems
Behavioral problems
Aggression
Selective mutism (refusal to talk)
Nightmares
Trauma
Inappropriate sexual behavior
Developmental delays
In our experience, Play Therapy has been effective in treating children with anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and effects of trauma, as well as those with populations with cognitive disabilities, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. For parents wanting to minimize or eliminate the need for psychiatric medications, Play Therapy is often a good choice. We are often able to help adults and children who have a history of treatment failures, in particular treatment-resistant depression. Our practice is small which helps ensure privacy and individual attention.
