 Problems Addressed in Play Therapy

Play Therapy facilitates maturational development and is helpful with a wide range of problems and diagnoses. Some of the problems that are effectively treated by Play therapy and associated techniques:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Social problems

  • Parent-child problems

  • Behavioral problems

  • Aggression

  • Selective mutism (refusal to talk)

  • Nightmares

  • Trauma

  • Inappropriate sexual behavior

  • Developmental delays

In our experience, Play Therapy has been effective in treating normal children as well as populations with cognitive disabilities, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. For parents wanting to minimize or eliminate the need for psychiatric medications, Play Therapy is often a good choice. We are often able to help adults and children who have a history of treatment failures, in particular treatment-resistant depression. Our practice is small which helps insure privacy and individual attention.
